Our idyllic Wantage pub and restaurant
Our setting in the middle of the South Oxfordshire countryside couldn’t be more idyllic. We’re one of many country pubs in and around historic Wantage – nestled at the heart of the ancient village of Sparsholt. The Star is everything you want in a country escape – a warm and welcoming bar with an elegant restaurant, hidden just off the beaten track, but only a 5 minute drive from central Wantage. In the Summer months, we have a sunny outdoor terrace and a lawned garden area next to a babbling brook. And, if you want to stay a night or two there’s a separate barn with eight luxurious bedrooms.
Historic
The Star Inn was built in 1720 but is a relative newcomer in a village whose church dates back to the 14th century. The pub is a building with beautiful bones featuring simple Georgian architecture, high ceilings and an airy sense of space.
Our eight bedrooms are set in a separate barn, again dating back to the eighteenth century, and the structure has been converted sympathetically to reflect its agricultural roots with exposed beams and rustic floors.
Energising
There are countless country walks on our doorstep including the famous Ridgeway, and the Uffington White Horse, so if you want to get out and about in beautiful scenery and fresh country air you couldn’t be in a better place. And after a long day’s walking, or even just a short stroll, where better to come back to than The Star for a restorative drink in our inviting bar or an enjoyable meal in our restaurant.
